Big Ben

Big Ben is the name of a clock tower located in the Palace of Westminster, London, United Kingdom. Tower was officially named Elizabeth Tower, to coincide with the party 60 years Queen Elizabeth II led Britain and the Commonwealth. The Big Ben was completed in 1858, and on May 31, 2009, the Tower precisely 150 years old.

The structure of the Big Ben

The tower was built as part of a plan to create a new Castle by Charles Barry, after the Palace of Westminster that long had been destroyed by fire on the night of October 22, 1834. The tower height is 96.3 meters (316 feet) and was built in the Victorian Gothic style. 61 meters (200 feet) below the brick-lined by stones, while the top of the tower is supported by an iron frame made from steel melting. The tower was built on a land measuring 15 meters by 15 meters, the Foundation made of concrete as thick as 3 meters (9 feet), at a depth of 4 meters (13 feet) below the surface.
